Open Water Courses
This program is specifically designed to introduce individuals and families to the sport of snorkeling and to appeal to families planning a vacation in warm, tropical water. You will learn:
- How to select and adjust proper-fitting equipment (mask, snorkel, and fins)
- How to use a mask and snorkel at the surface
- How to use proper kicking techniques
- How to clear your mask and snorkel
- How to make shallow surface dives
In addition, this program increases confidence in water activities for the entire family. Requirements:
- There is no minimum age.
- Parents or guardians must be there for those under the age of 15.
- You will need to be able to swim 50 yards (46 meters) using any stroke with no time limit.
This program will introduce swimmers to the fun world of scuba diving under the supervision of a certified scuba Instructor. With both classroom and water experience, you will learn about the necessity for proper and safe scuba training and the potential for family participation. You will also discover what Scuba Educators has to offer. Requirements:
- The minimum age is 10 years old
- You will need to be able to swim 25-50 yards (23-46 meters) continuously using any stroke
- You will complete a medical questionnaire
We have developed and established many opportunities for Junior Divers (ages 12-14) at the Open Water and Specialty certification levels. The Junior Diver must be 12 years old before the beginning of training and at their 15th birthday is eligible for full certification. Requirements:
- Junior Diver students must have a parent/guardian present during all training sessions.
- Junior Divers are limited to a depth of 60 feet (18 meters).
- Junior certified divers must be accompanied by an adult of equal or greater certification on all scuba dives.
This 24-40 hour entry-level course will train participants to demonstrate the ability to plan and execute entry-level recreational dives. You will be introduced to the exciting and spectacular world of underwater exploration with the proper training of scuba physiology of the human body, gas laws, equipment assembly, and complete understanding of scuba skills not only in the pool but also in the open water environment. This will allow the new diver a complete, safe, comfortable, and enjoyable new activity. Requirements:
- The minimum age is 15yrs. old (12-14 for Junior Open Water)
- You will complete a medical questionnaire
- You will complete a swimming ability test containing an underwater swim, surface swim, and treading/survival floating exercise
- Upon successful completion, you will receive a lifelong certification!
This program is designed to provide a controlled training environment for certified divers who have not had recent diving experience. Any certified diver from any recognized agency with a desire to “refresh” their skills is eligible. This program is recommended for:
- Those with less than 4 open water dives in the past year.
- Those with no open water dives in the past six months.
- Those planning dives in an environment that is new to them.
- Those who may feel they have forgotten portions of the Open Water program regardless of time.
This course is the next step in the progression of training for a scuba diver that has completed the Open Water Diver certification. It adds five additional dives to the diver’s education and experience. Open water training is the primary objective of this course. Requirements:
- The minimum age is 15yrs. old (12-14 for Junior Open Water)
- You will complete a medical questionnaire
- You must be a certified Open Water Diver or equivalent from another recognized agency
- You will participate in Night, Navigation, and Deep Open Water dives, as well as other experiences
This course is designed to expand the knowledge and skills of an Open Water diver and includes additional classroom training and adds five additional dives to the diver’s experience. Open water diving is the primary objective of this course with classroom training designed to augment the knowledge presented to Open Water divers. Advanced OWD Level 2 is a required part of the prerequisite dives or can be included as a full ten-dive course. Requirements:
- The minimum age is 15 years old
- You will complete a medical questionnaire
- You will need to be Advanced OWD Level 2 certified or have 10 logged dives after your Open Water certification
- You will need a current certification in CPR (NSC, AHA, ARC, ASHI or equivalent) and prior to certification, you will need First Aid (NSC, ARC, AHA, ASHI or equivalent) and Oxygen Provider (DAN or equivalent)
The purpose of the DRAM Rescue Diver specialty course is to provide the knowledge and skills to recognize and take action in the event of a diving accident. This course concentrates on four primary topics: Cognizance, Assessment, Rescue, and Evacuation. DRAM Rescue Diver certification is recommended for all divers and is a prerequisite for all levels of scuba leadership training. Once certified, it is recommended that divers participate in a refresher course at least every two years. Requirements:
- The minimum age is 15 years old
- You will complete a medical questionnaire
- You will need to be Advanced OWD Level 2 certified or have 10 logged dives after your Open Water Diver certification
- You will need a current certification in CPR (NSC, AHA, ARC, ASHI or equivalent) and prior to certification, you will need First Aid (NSC, ARC, AHA, ASHI or equivalent) and Oxygen Provider (DAN or equivalent)
This course and certification is the highest and most prestigious non-leadership rating that may be attained by a Scuba Educators diver. It is considered the supreme standard of diving excellence and recognition of expert training. This course of instruction is often offered to students over a period of time rather than in a formal class environment. In this way, students can build knowledge and skills while meeting all the completion requirements including other specialty courses. By taking Advanced OWD Level 2 and/or Level 3 courses and making at least 15 dives on the diver’s own, and 10 dives during the program, a total of at least 40 dives is logged. Requirements:
- The minimum age is 18 years old
- You will complete a medical questionnaire
- You will need to be Advanced OWD Level 3 and complete 15 additional dives, as well as a certified DRAM Rescue Diver, or the equivalent from another recognized diver certification agency
- You will need to be certified in one (1) additional diving specialty of your choice
- You will need to be certified or complete certification for First Aid (NSC, ARC, AHA, ASHI or equivalent), CPR (NSC, AHA, ARC, ASHI or equivalent), and Oxygen Provider (DAN or equivalent)
