Leadership Courses
An Open Water certified diver with a desire to obtain leadership certification as an Instructor with SCUBA Educators must progress through Dive Supervisor (Phase I) then Assistant Instructor (Phase II) before going on to Instructor (Phase III) training. Each level has prerequisites to enter training as well as exit requirements for certification.
To be considered for any SCUBA Educators Leadership certification, the student must not have any standards violations or have been dismissed from SCUBA Educators or any other scuba certification agency.
This course is the first in the progression of leadership courses that can lead to being certified as a SCUBA Educators Instructor. The Divemaster course is approximately 40 hours of training time that includes classroom, pool, and open water training. In this program, the cognitive or classroom portion is at the instructor level and this program, therefore, becomes the first phase in leadership training. Requirements:
- The minimum age is 18yrs. old
- You will complete a medical questionnaire
- You will need to be Advanced OWD Level 3 and complete 20 additional dives, as well as a certified DRAM Rescue Diver, or the equivalent from another recognized diver certification agency
- You will need to be certified or complete certification for First Aid (NSC, ARC, AHA, ASHI or equivalent), CPR (NSC, AHA, ARC, ASHI or equivalent), and Oxygen Provider (DAN or equivalent)
Assistant Instructor certification is the second required step in the development toward becoming a SCUBA Educators Instructor. This course requires approximately 25 hours of training. Compared to some other agencies, this Assistant Instructor program is the Instructor Development Course(IDC). Requirements:
- The minimum age is 18yrs. old
- You will complete a medical questionnaire
- You will need Complete Divemaster Training or approved equivalent level from a recognized agency. (No more than thirty (30) hours of Divemaster in Training may be included in the Assistant Instructor course.)

- You will participate in a teaching internship consisting of both classroom and pool/confined water training, as well as assisting during open water dives
This course is designed as the third phase of instruction in the SCUBA Educators leadership series.
